Education Kits - Feathers, Fossils, and Flight

Investigate the Magic of Flight!

The Feathers, Fossils, Flight! kit comes with all the materials needed to help students explore and answer the scientific mystery, "Could Archaeopteryx fly?". A detailed Program Leader's Guide provides a 1 hour lesson plan to facilitate the exploration of feathers, wings, airfoils, and bird skeletons to understand how birds fly. Students will compare the features of modern birds to a resin replica of an Archaeopteryx fossil to answer the question.

The kit contains 10 Investigation Kits which have real bird wings, feathers, and a bird sternum to look at. The kit also provides additional resources and activities including:

* USB drive - contains additional information, links to online videos, and an online interactive activity

* Groovy Gliders - Students will learn how different wing shapes influence flight by making paper airplanes

* How Big is Your Wingspan? - Students will figure out how big their wingspan would need to be to fly

Pricing: $35 for a week, $10 each additional week (3 week maximum)
