Leader Profile: Bragg
Jan Bragg
Field Trip Leader

The sight of a Scarlet Tanager when she was a child in New Jersey sent Jan scurrying for her mother’s bird book. Jan learned to identify a few eastern species, but didn’t get hooked on birding until she moved to Seattle. Jan joined Seattle Audubon in 1989. Weekdays she can be found at the UW Medical Center where she is a pediatric physical therapist.

"I like to point out the sounds that birds make," she explains. "It’s important to see the birds, but it’s also important to be aware of their sounds, since so much of birding is auditory." She takes her role of teacher seriously. "If I can make one person more aware of the natural world, I’m happy," says Jan. "Field trip leaders have done so much to broaden my awareness; I'd like to do the same for someone else."

For more than seven years, Jan has been involved in the Magnuson Park and Lake Forest Park Neighborhood Bird Counts. and invites you to get involved, too.
