Leader Profile: McDougall
Susan McDougall
Field Trip Leader

Seattle native Susan McDougall is a retired software engineer who began birding over 20 years ago. Her list of favorite species includes the Horned Grebe, Red-necked Grebe, the Elegant Trogon she spotted while birding with her sister in Arizona and any woodpecker.  "I like their attitude," she comments.

Susan has pursued her interest in birds and nature beyond field identification to producing an in-depth study of the diving behavior of grebes and a book about the trees of Mt. Rainier for the layperson. She and her new husband are currently working on a keyed field guide to the flora of Mt. Adams.

A Master Birder, she has led occasional field trips focusing on forest ecology  as well as birds. She is also involved with the restoration work at Carnation Marsh. Anyone looking for a field trip covering the "big picture" should watch for Susan’s next field trip.
