Leader Profile: Roedell
Alan Roedell
Field Trip Leader

"A love of nature will enrich your life," comments Alan Roedell. Birding has added an extra dimension to his own life since he became a "serious birder" about ten years ago. Although Alan had watched birds since he was a child, he decided he wanted to learn more after he met a couple who had seen all nineteen owls that breed in North America (excluding Mexico). "I thought that was cool and went out and bought better binoculars and a new field guide," he recalls.

In addition to leading field trips, he serves on the Development Advisory Committee, coordinates volunteers for the Christmas Bird Count, works in the Nature Shop, and lugs mailbags filled with Earthcare Northwest to the post office each month.

On a field trip his goal is for everyone to enjoy the trip as well as to see plenty of birds. And how many owls has he seen? "I’ve seen 17 and heard the other two," says Alan.
