Achievements in 2011 and Goals for 2012

For over 95 years, Seattle Audubon has encouraged people to get outside, embrace nature, and take responsibility for our community — and our natural environment is all the better for it.

Seattle Audubon members support diverse programs that educate and empower local residents. We make environmental education accessible to both youth and adults, as well as ensure that our community has the scientific analysis and policy advocacy needed to create a healthy, environmentally sustainable future. Seattle Audubon members are among the most engaged and informed community advocates, helping to protect and preserve our natural areas and surrounding waters.

These are just a few of Seattle Audubon’s accomplishments over the past year:

  1. Passage of landmark legislation that significantly improves our capability to respond to a major oil spill in our marine waters.
  2. Provided scholarships for 23 youths to attend our Nature Camps this summer.
  3. Completed the 4th year of our Puget Sound Seabird Survey, a comprehensive citizen science monitoring project along 90 miles of Puget Sound shoreline.
  4. Developed a detailed neighborhood urban forest habitat analysis, including creation of tree planting opportunity maps for individual neighborhoods.

As we move into 2012, there is an urgent need to continue and expand these efforts.

What Can Your Investment Do?

  • $52 supports one child in our Finding Urban Nature (F.U.N.) elementary school program for the Spring semester.

  • $71 provides the resources for a Seattle Audubon volunteer to testify in Olympia on proposed measures to protect Puget Sound.

  • $95 can support a public bird banding demonstration by our BirdWatch high school students, teaching these teens important ornithological knowledge as well as valuable public speaking skills.

  • $220 can send one child to a full week of summer Nature Camp, helping them learn about their connections to birds and the local environment.

  • $360 can provide the computer software resources for Seattle Audubon Conservation Committee to analyze the tree canopy coverage in a specific neighborhood and identify tree planting opportunities to improve urban green spaces.

Your support is essential in connecting people with birds and nature.
