Seattle's Urban Forestry Commission

On August 3, 2009 Seattle City Council passed Seattle Ordinance 123052 and created Seattle's inaugural Urban Forestry Commission (UFC). Candidates were interviewed later that year and the first UFC was meeting was held in December 10, 2009. Seattle Audubon Conservation Director Matthew Mega was appointed to the Commission and will serve a three year term (2010-2013).

The 9-member Urban Forestry Commission is to advise the Mayor and City Council on policies, plans, and regulations related to the protection, management, and conservation of trees in Seattle. More information, meeting schedules, agendas and minutes can be found at the UFC web page...here.

This page along with our eventual blog will try to focus on UFC work from the perspective of Seattle Audubon. Please feel free to contact Matt (206-523-8243 ext 38) with suggestions and thoughts about how the UFC can better serve the needs of Seattle's urban forest. For a great summary of activities that occurred in 2009 that led up to the creation of the Urban Forestry Commission and positive changes to Seattle's tree protections visit City of Seattle Council President Richard Conlin's web page...here.
